This effect was created by filling the plasma globe with Xenon and a small amount of Neon to stabilize the gas. The globe on this page was made in June 2007 after a glass-blower installed a small glass fill tube on a broken globe.
The following series of pictures was taken with increasing shutter speeds with the last one at 4 seconds. Amazing, isn't it!
