Streamers1

Our 2nd generation Tesla Coil was fired up in February of 2005. It is a 4-1/2" coil X 21" lg. The Toroid is 4" dia X 20" OD. Streamers up to 60" were obtained but we increased current limiting to keep the streamers from hitting things in the basement. For these pictures, streamers are under 48". This unit utilizes the same power supply as our earlier project.

The resonant frequency of the coil and topload is estimated at 150 kHz. We have not had time to measure with an oscilliscope as yet. The primary is tapped at (9) turns and the tank capacitor is 34 nF. We are operating at 460 BPS.

Black and White night shots pick up the discharge much better than the color picutres as shown here.

Stike Rail Hit

Here you can see a streamer hitting the strike rail. Without the stike rail for protection, streamers would likely hit the primary and cause bad things to happen to the power supply.
